Dreaming of exchanging vows surrounded by towering mountains, turquoise lakes, and some of the most breathtaking scenery in Montana?

Glacier National Park is such a beautiful place for an intimate wedding or elopement. I had the opportunity to photograph there last year, and it's definitely somewhere I'd love to return to for more love stories!

If you're planning a Glacier National Park elopement in 2027, here's everything you need to know to get started.

Glacier National Park Wedding Permits for 2027

Yes, you'll need a Special Use Permit to get married in Glacier National Park, even if you're planning a private ceremony with just the two of you.

The current application fee is $125, and you can apply up to one year before your wedding date. I recommend applying early, especially for popular summer and fall dates.

Your ceremony permit allows up to two hours at your approved location, but you can still take couples photos at other publicly accessible areas of the park afterward.

You can find the application and official instructions on the Glacier National Park wedding permit website.

Beautiful Glacier National Park Elopement Locations

One of the best things about Glacier is the variety of incredible scenery!

  • Lake McDonald is perfect for couples dreaming of a romantic lakeside ceremony with mountains in the background. The area offers several designated wedding locations.
  • Many Glacier is known for its dramatic mountain peaks and stunning lakes. It's one of the most beautiful areas of the park, although seasonal access and restrictions are important to consider.
  • Sun Point offers incredible views overlooking St. Mary Lake and the surrounding mountains. It's a gorgeous option for an intimate ceremony.
  • Two Medicine is another beautiful area with mountain and lake scenery, although some ceremony locations have restrictions extending into 2027.

Each location has its own guest limits and regulations, so make sure to check the park's official ceremony location list before choosing your spot.

When Is the Best Time to Elope in Glacier?

  • July and August are popular for warmer weather and access to Glacier's higher-elevation scenery. They're also the busiest months of the year.

  • September is another beautiful option, with cooler temperatures, fewer summer visitors, and the possibility of early fall colors.

  • May and June can be gorgeous around lower-elevation areas, but snow may still prevent access to some mountain roads and locations.

If you're dreaming of photos along Going-to-the-Sun Road, remember that the higher sections open based on snow conditions, not a guaranteed calendar date.

Planning Your Glacier National Park Elopement

My biggest advice? Don't try to fit too many locations into one day!

Glacier is a huge park, and driving between different areas can take longer than expected.

I'd recommend choosing a beautiful ceremony location, allowing plenty of time for couples portraits, and keeping your timeline relaxed so you can actually enjoy your wedding day.

And don't worry if the weather isn't perfectly sunny. Some of my favorite mountain photographs happen on cloudy, moody afternoons!
